I have battled with my weight most of my adult life and I definitely felt like losing weight would always be the hardest thing I’d ever have to do. I worked in food & beverage for many years and as a restaurant manager handled and worked around food constantly.
It’s not much different at home these days. My husband and I are raising two athletic boys who are just about to turn into teenagers and we cook dinner and breakfast five or six days out of seven. My biggest problem was overeating, mostly as a result of being upset about something or eating just because someone close to me told me not to! Food and I were old friends; You know how it goes, tell those troubles to a big old plate of creamy pasta and get some ‘comfort’ …for about ten minutes that is… And so it goes. I should say, and so it went, for a very, very long time until I decided to “just get started!” Yes, I was ready and I definitely needed help and I was totally sure help had arrived the morning Frank VanderSloot introduced VFL to all of us at Convention in Salt Lake City!
I began my weight loss journey on August 9th, (my New Year’s Day so to speak) and to date I have lost 54 pounds and 28 inches (as of March 2007), which has me feeling great and more than very excited! VFL has helped me so much to be accountable, without feeling shamed. It has provided me with great reservoirs of information and allowed me to see my results every step of the way. I love looking at those little graphs! Making sure I logged on every day was a great game that began to benefit me more each time I did it.
In the beginning, I wanted my dollar back, just to be able to get it back, but as a result of my daily log-ins I was gradually getting a clue about what I was putting into my mouth each day! Not missing even one meal of logging in is still a goal but the results I’m seeing are helping me to keep going.
When I hit the 25 pound mark in late October, I sent out a little note to my customers and the gals on my team and shared some basic info with them. It was:
- Switch WHAT you eat
- CUT your portions
- GET BUSY doing daily exercise

Finally I take it one day at a time. I log my weight usually once, maybe twice a week. I do weigh myself every day though, in case I’ve fallen off the horse, I can get right back on and start again before a one pound gain turns into 5. And every time I get to record just one pound lost, it’s a major victory and I’m a little bit closer to my goal. The other day I heard someone say, “I’m just taking BABY STEPS” and the reply was “yes, but they are STEPS just the same”.
